Manipulated Grief – Poem from 2/20/18

Title: Manipulated Grief

It happened.

No one told her
he could take her “no,”
mix it with her insecurity,
and twist it until
it resembled a timid “okay.”

Her heart raced
for all the wrong reasons
and she tried to find more “no’s.”
between the pain and her shame,
but nothing would come.

She focused on it being over,
then she dreaded how many tears
she would jar for this secret,
in hopes, one day, they could cleanse her.
